Spark! Imagination and Science Center is seeking an Executive Director.
Organization: Spark! Imagination and Science Center is a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit organization located in Morgantown, West Virginia. Spark’s mission is to inspire people of all ages to explore science and the arts through hands-on exhibits and programs that spark a lifelong love or learning.
Spark’s exhibits are hands-on and interactive, for children up to age 10 and their grown-ups to explore science and the arts. Spark’s programs include Special Events, hands-on STEM outreach, hands-on STEM field trips, and much more. Spark is a Museums for All Museum, families with WIC or EBT are welcome free of charge.
Description: Spark! Imagination and Science Center seeks an Executive Director with a strong background in non-profit development.The ED will provide leadership and management of this small, growing non-profit.
Responsibilities:
Governance
- Work in conjunction with the Board to develop and implement the strategic plan
- Establish initiatives to fulfill the mission of the Museum
- Act as ex-officio member of all committees
- Work with the board on development
Development
- Research and write grants, report grant results
- Cultivate Donor relationships
- Create and cultivate partnership/sponsorship opportunities
- Work with Board on Fundraising events
Marketing
- Market the museum and programs through press releases, website, Facebook, etc
- Form partnerships with other museums and non-profits
Education
- Work with Education Coordinator to create new programs (outreach, special events, etc)
- Evaluate programs
Exhibit/Facilities
- Create new exhibits or procure through grants
- Update/maintain current exhibits
Visitor Services
- Train and supervise staff and volunteers
- Ensure visitor safety and happiness
Operational
- Work with the Operations Coordinator and Board Treasurer to establish an annual budget and maintain organizational financial health.
- Manage financial and business operations such as maintaining insurance policies, vendor relationships and timely & accurate filings of financial reports.
Qualifications:
A bachelor’s degree is required and at least 5 years of non-profit experience is preferred.
The ideal candidate will:
- Have demonstrated leadership and management skills;
- Be an effective fundraiser;
- Have strong administrative, communication, and interpersonal skills;
- Be highly organized, collaborative, flexible; and
- Have experience in working with museums or non-profits.
